Calgary philanthropist Colin B. Glassco
will stop by and visit the Grade 5 class at Calgary French &
International School today to pick up donations of uniforms and
clothing with the School’s old name and logo, and scrapbooks
from students about their life in Canada. The students are currently
studying Africa. Glassco will take the supplies to Zambia, Africa’s
Gwambe Valley where the Colin B. Glassco Charitable Foundation for
Children is helping to drill wells to provide clean drinking water
for local residents. Glassco will return to the School in June and
share his experiences with the students.
Authorization to interview Glassco and participating
students has been given.
Calgary’s first French Immersion school,
Calgary French & International School (formerly known as The
Calgary French School) is poised to take the lead as the centre
of educational excellence in Language Immersion in the city. Construction
is being completed on a new $12 million campus which will open in
September 2003 in Cougar Ridge. For over 30 years, the School has
prepared children to embrace the world around them and be active
participants. The School fosters success in academics, athletics,
music and fine arts all within a Language Immersion environment.
It established its French language program prior to the Royal Commission
that led to the federal policy of official bilingualism. Currently,
the School offers affordable French and Spanish Immersion education
from Preschool to Grade 7 for over 400 students.
