2008-2013 CFIS Society Strategic Plan Overview
INTRODUCTION
We are pleased to present our strategic plan to our teachers and staff, parents and the Calgary French and International School (CFIS) community. This plan represents a culmination of planning efforts by the CFIS Society Strategic Planning Committee with the CFIS Administration. For almost one year, information was gathered and analyzed from different stakeholders through CFIS parent surveys and environmental scans. This information led to the identification of four key strategic directions that will enable us to realize our vision. All members of CFIS are invited to share in the vision for the future of CFIS as it embraces and celebrates our successes and opportunities for the future.
STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
Provide Quality Education and Student Experiences
as CFIS grows from Kindergarten to Grade 12
GOALS:
- Students will be prepared to succeed in their next CFIS grade level and be more than capable
to pursue post-secondary opportunities upon graduation.
- Parents will continue to give high satisfaction ratings on quality and delivery of academic programs and associated activities. They will be partners in their child’s education and important members of the CFIS community.
- School enrolment levels will be achieved to fully leverage facility capacity.
- Students graduating from Grade 12 will have their Bilingual Certificate as well as experience in a third language.
Recruit and Retain High Caliber Staff
GOALS:
With high satisfaction rates on annual staff surveys,CFIS will remain the employer of choice
for French teachers and staff in Calgary.
- Professional development will be a focus for CFIS Administration and Staff to
support life-long learning.
- Effective partnerships will be established with teacher preparation programs to
enhance recruitment and retention.
- We will be recognized by our colleagues and the CFIS community as superior language educators.
Remain Leaders in French Immersion Education
GOALS:
Annual top rating by Fraser Institute for private French Immersion in Alberta.
- The French immersion program for Kindergarten to Grade 12 continues to be one of the top reasons parents choose CFIS.
- CFIS provides a variety of learning options and extracurricular activities that are well integrated with French culture.
Recognize and Enhance International Focus
GOALS:
Academic programs and extracurricular activities include internationally focused objectives or experiences.
- Unique international partnerships will be built or enhanced to support academic programs and extracurricular experiences for CFIS staff and students.
- Students will have increased awareness of the different cultures that exist internationally, nationally, within Calgary, and within the CFIS school community.
- Multi-language offerings are available to all of our students.
CONCLUSION
It is an exciting time at CFIS. CFIS is expanding into high school, experiencing continued growth, and expansion to our new junior high/senior high wing in Fall 2008. Our arts program and extracurricular programs have been very successful while programs to develop social responsibility within and outside of our community thrive.
This Strategic Plan describes the directions the school will take in the future. Providing a quality education of the whole child has been at the core of CFIS for almost 40 years and will remain so as CFIS grows into a leading K–12 school. Attention will be given to retaining excellent staff and students, continuing to remain a leader in French Immersion education and further enhancing our International Program. Integration of technology in the program will ensure CFIS’s continued success as a leader in French Immersion education for years to come.
