CFIS works as a team with the community and all stakeholders
to bring quality programming and faciities that enrich the lives
of the students and the community in which we live and work. CFIS
will continue to thrive through the assistance of generous individuals
and corporations. There are a number of way in which you can assist
with a donation.
Cash, Cheque, or VISA –
An outright gift, with no conditions, for which a charitable tax
receipt can be issued.
Pledged gift schedules –
Multi-year pledging can be an excellent way to make your gift more
feasible as a donation over time rather than in one lump sum. Pledges
can be made annually, semi-annually or even monthly.
Gifts of securities or other capital
assets (Public and Private) - Gifts such as securities, real
estate, art, etc. can be received as campaign contributions. These
gifts should be receipted at fair market value at time of sale and
sold immediately. The provisions of the Income Tax Act should be
referenced and adhered to. The May 2, 2006 Canadian Federal budget made it more attractive to make donations to charities. Donations of publicly listed securities to public charities (such as CFIS, CILF or The CFS Endowment Society) will be exempted from capital gains taxation. Refer to our reference sheet on donating securites and stock options for details.
Bequests, memoriums or other celebratory
/ remembrance gifts – Opportunities through our Commemorative
Brick Campaign or leaving a gift to CFIS in your will or life insurance
policy are just a few examples of the gift donations you can contribute
that will attribute your name as part of the school’s history.
By donating your gift to CFIS, you and / or your loved ones’
contribution will be remembered for years to come.
Gifts In-kind (GIK) – products
and / or services – Your gifts to CFIS do not always need
to come in the form of direct money. You can also donate products
and services that would be useful to CFIS. In-kind product can be
tax receipted at 100% of its fair market value. In-kind services
cannot be tax receipted.
Gifts of real and cultural property – You can donate real
estate or property to CFIS as a source of support. CFIS will have
to consider whether the gift is in the best interest of the school
and will then sell the property as soon as feasible.
Corporate Matching - Many employers
offer their employees a Corporate Matching Gift Program. If you
make a gift to CFIS and your company has a matching gift program,
all you usually need to do is notify your employer that you have
made a gift and to what amount and they will send an additional
gift to our campaign. There are approximately 200 companies in Calgary
that offer matching gift programs so check with yours to see if
this option is available.
United
Way Campaign – Another opportunity
to leverage your gift is through your annual contribution to United
Way as a designated gift to CFIS. For a small administrative fee
(7% with a minimum of $5 and maximum of $10), you may designate
your donation to:
CFIS (Contact us for the appropriate Charitable #)
Participating companies generally direct their matching donation
to the general fund that benefits several programs throughout Calgary. |
