Our Programs : Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program (run by the College Board of Princeton) enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. AP courses are offered as enrichment to the standard secondary school curriculum. Students are instructed throughout the year in preparation for the AP external exams (administered and marked by the College Board) which are written in May of their Grade 12 year. Based on their performance on AP examinations, students who excel may receive credit, advanced placement, or both in corresponding courses at many colleges/universities in Canada, the US and internationally.

CFIS considered course offerings that would bring the most challenge, diversity and opportunity to our students. We currently offer the following Advanced Placement course selections:

  • French Language
  • English Literature & Composition
  • Calculus AB
  • Biology
  • European History

The AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on any AP Grade Report that is sent to colleges the following fall.

AP Scholar - Granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Honor - Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

National AP Scholar (Canada) - Granted to students in Canada who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on five or more of these exams.
