CFIS has two opportunities for students to become involved in their
school’s governance. Both Junior High and Elementary levels
each have their own Students’ Council that contribute to organizing
school events for their classmates and participate in some fundraising
activities. Elections for Students’ Council occur in early
fall and last for the whole school year. The Elementary Students’
Council consists of representatives from Grades 4-6 and the Junior
High Students’ Council is made up of representatives from
Grades 7-8.
CFIS offers a variety of extracurricular opportunities for your
child to get involved with the school and enhance their educational
experience. Clubs operating at the school include:

Thanks to our partnership with SAIT we have launched a unique and
innovative Robotics program for Junior High. In collaboration with
the Western Canadian Robotics Society, students take part in weeklong
Robotics I and II courses to celebrate science and technology through
the designing, strategizing, building, programming, testing, and
refining of autonomous robots capable of completing various challenges.
This specialized hands on opportunity empowers students’ imaginations,
natural curiosities and critical thinking skills.

CFIS’s most recent Robotics course featured Craig Maynard,
Western Canadian Robotics Society founder and past president,
First Lego League Alberta Technical Director, and veteran
Computer Engineering Technology instructor at SAIT as the
students’ dynamic and insightful teacher.
A Mini Sumo Workshop was offered to all interested CFIS Junior
High roboticists on the last day of their SAIT visit. The
workshop, given by the Western Canadian Robotics Society,
enabled students to construct a more sophisticated robot capable
of competing at the Western Canadian Robot Games the following
day.
The following students attended the workshop: From Grade
8: Reid Alston, Natalie Crump, Michael Davies, Connor Hooke,
Brendan Vincelli and from Grade 7: Conrad Behrman, Gareth
Cross, Carter Smith, and Michael Taylor.
Congratulations to Carter who placed 7th, Conrad, and Gareth
for competing at the internationally attended Western Canadian
Robot Games
We would like to thank our program sponsors SAIT
and Victhom Human
Bionics for making this program possible.
