The CFIS debate club is open to students in grades 6 to 9. The
art of debate is becoming an important part of our school culture.
Students interested in becoming members should notify their teachers.
The idea behind debate is that there are two sides to every issue.
In a debate the two sides are known as the Affirmative and the Negative.
The two sides of the debate have different jobs arising from their
position with respect to the Resolution, issue or topic. The participants
of the CFIS debate club will benefit from developing public speaking,
critical thinking, research and teamwork skills. We deal with the
challenge of learning to be resourceful thinkers who can synthesize
ideas and quickly articulate them. Debate is based on simple and
logical concepts. Debate involves two teams of two people speaking
in a specific order.
