International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, all CFIS students in Preschool to Grade 5 will be part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), moving us closer to being a full IB Continuum school. CFIS is currently in the consideration phase for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). This will continue through 2023, at which time we can submit a ‘Request for Candidacy’ from the IB. Once approved for the candidacy stage, our teachers and staff will expand upon their training with an IB Consultant. Upon completion of candidacy, and authorized by the IB, CFIS will be officially recognized as an IB Continuum school!

The MYP is a more challenging framework that encourages students in grades 6-10 to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. MYP is an interdisciplinary program for students in Grades 6-10 that naturally combines two (or more) subjects, for example, French Language Arts and Social Studies. This encourages students to make links between subjects, and helps them prepare for more subject specific studies in later grades.
