CFIS Students Shine: Bridging Generations Through Art

***

As 2025 begins, we are proud to celebrate an inspiring initiative at CFIS that highlights the generosity and compassion of our students while strengthening connections to the wider community.

The GEFJUN Club, CFIS’s dedicated volunteering group named after the Norse goddess of generosity, is led by two extraordinary students, Jay T. and Kalina A., under the guidance of high school teacher Mme Connolly. Together, they recruit fellow student volunteers and coordinate meaningful activities that make a lasting impact.

One standout project has been an intergenerational art program at BowView Manor, facilitated by the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) initiative. This program connects CFIS students with seniors, including those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, to create meaningful art projects. Through these sessions, students learned about compassion, patience, and the value of supporting others while building intergenerational bonds. The program culminated in a moving wrap-up party and art show hosted by BowView Manor staff. The framed artwork, beautifully displayed alongside refreshments, created a moment of pride for both residents and students. It was a powerful reminder of the impact of collaboration, kindness, and creativity.

This project reflects the dedication of CFIS students, staff, and parents, as well as the remarkable support from BowView Manor. The team at BowView went above and beyond to prepare meaningful projects, ensuring an enriching experience for everyone involved. Their warmth and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on students, teaching them valuable lessons about care and community.

CFIS is immensely proud of our students’ altruism and enthusiasm. Their efforts not only brought joy to BowView residents but also deepened their understanding of compassion and creativity. This initiative is a shining example of the values we strive to nurture at CFIS.

We look forward to continuing this partnership and finding new ways to give back to our community. These students remind us all of the profound impact that generosity and connection can have in making the world a better place.
