Grade 4 Outdoor Learning

Grade 4 students recently returned from an exciting overnight trip to Camp Evergreen, where they immersed themselves in outdoor learning, adventure, and community building.

The experience began with an Indigenous learning day led by Mahikan Trails. Students explored trapper tents, participated in a Medicine Walk, learned about animal tracks, and deepened their understanding of Indigenous perspectives and connections to the natural world.

Throughout their stay at Camp Evergreen, students rotated through a variety of camp activities, including bazooka ball, orienteering, team-building challenges, canoeing, and ziplining. One highlight was paddling together through the camp's water feature, creating plenty of smiles and memorable moments.

For many students, this was their first overnight trip away from home. The experience provided valuable opportunities to develop confidence, independence, resilience, and leadership while strengthening friendships with classmates.

The trip also supported learning beyond the classroom by helping students deepen their environmental literacy and explore connections to the Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education curricula. Most importantly, students returned energized, happy, and full of stories about their adventures in nature.

From campfires and canoe rides to new friendships and personal achievements, the Grade 4 overnight trip was an experience students will remember for years to come.
