Grade 6 Takes on the Green Challenge

Grade 6 Takes on the Green Challenge

Grade 6 students are currently participating in the Green Learning Challenge, a nation-wide competition that invites students to design and build devices powered by clean energy. With prizes of up to $1,000, the challenge encourages innovation, collaboration, and real-world thinking around renewable energy solutions.

Students have already begun working toward their submission including dedicated build time during Clean Energy Day on our January 26 Da Vinci Day  and will continue refining their projects as they prepare their final entry.

As part of the challenge, students were tasked with creating a functional device powered by a renewable energy source such as solar, wind, or hydro. The results have been impressive. From solar ovens and windmills to solar-powered house models and hydroelectric turbines, students have demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and a strong understanding of how clean energy systems work.

We are currently compiling photos and videos of their designs into a class submission for the national contest. Beyond the possibility of winning, this experience has given students the opportunity to engage deeply with sustainability, apply their learning in a hands-on way, and imagine innovative solutions for a cleaner future.

Well done to our young innovators for embracing the challenge and thinking boldly about a cleaner and more sustainable future.
