Honouring Our Grade 5 Learners

The CFIS community recently gathered to celebrate an important milestone as our Grade 5 students marked the completion of their Primary School years and prepared to begin their Middle School journey. Families, staff, Board members, and future Grade 5 students came together to recognize the accomplishments, growth, and contributions of this remarkable cohort.
 

The celebration began with a formal ceremony that honoured each student as they crossed the stage to receive a promotion certificate. Continuing a cherished CFIS tradition, teachers shared three adjectives that captured the unique qualities and strengths of every student, recognizing not only their academic achievements but also the character they have demonstrated throughout their years in Primary School.

Throughout the ceremony, several students were recognized with special awards for excellence in academics, leadership, athletics, music, visual arts, Spanish, global citizenship, and service. These awards highlighted the many talents and contributions that make this Grade 5 class so exceptional.

A particularly meaningful moment was the acknowledgement of Ella Orlic, whose memory remains an important part of the Grade 5 cohort and the CFIS community.

Following the celebration, students proudly presented their Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition, the culminating experience of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Working in pairs, students explored one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through inquiry, research, interviews, and collaboration. Guided by the central idea, “Choices contribute to society and our identity,” they investigated issues that mattered to them and developed projects that reflected their learning and personal interests.

The exhibition showcased the curiosity, creativity, and agency that students have developed throughout their years in the PYP. Families and guests were invited to engage with the projects, ask questions, and celebrate the hard work and dedication that students invested over the past several months.
 

Earlier this month, CFIS also celebrated the contributions of the 2025–2026 Primary Years Student Council. Comprised of elected Grade 4 and Grade 5 students, the council played an important leadership role throughout the school year by representing their classmates, planning Spirit Days and special events, supporting assemblies, and helping foster a positive school culture. During a special recognition ceremony, council members were presented with certificates acknowledging their dedication, service, and leadership. Their commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, and responsibility has helped strengthen the CFIS community and create a welcoming environment where all students feel valued. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and leadership these students demonstrated throughout the year and congratulate them on their many accomplishments.
 

As the Grade 5 students prepare to take their next steps into Middle School, we congratulate them on all they have accomplished. We are proud of the kind, compassionate, courageous, and hardworking learners they have become, and we look forward to seeing all they will achieve in the years ahead.
