In May, CFIS Middle School students participated in a range of enriching trips aligned with the Round Square IDEALS—Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. From immersive homestays to off-the-grid wilderness adventures, these journeys offered many students their first experience away from home, fostering independence, empathy, and cultural understanding.
In Quebec, students connected deeply with their Salésien host families while exploring cities like Montreal and Sherbrooke. They practiced French, experienced local traditions, and built lasting friendships through shared activities and community events.
The trip to France immersed students in the Loire Valley’s culture and history. From medieval castles to French classes and even ziplining, students gained confidence and strengthened communication skills while living with homestay families.
In the Yukon, students learned Indigenous survival skills, created traditional art, and connected with nature during cabin stays at Marsh Lake. This experience nurtured environmental awareness, resilience, and reflection.
The Saskatchewan trip combined history and culture with hands-on learning. Students explored Indigenous heritage, toured museums, and participated in immersive theatrical experiences that brought history to life, building empathy and teamwork.
In Winnipeg, students engaged with powerful themes of human rights and reconciliation through museum visits and art workshops. These reflective experiences, balanced with fun social activities, encouraged advocacy and deeper understanding.
Together, these trips helped students develop leadership, communication, and independence, while fostering a global perspective and lifelong appreciation for cultural exploration beyond the classroom.
Trips for 2025–26 have just been announced, and we’re excited to welcome next year’s students as they prepare for their own inspiring adventures.
