Yes Day: Student Imagination Unleashed

On May 8, CFIS handed the reins over to our students for "Yes Day." Teachers stepped back as student imagination took the wheel, transforming classrooms into hubs of pure joy, autonomy, and hilariously specific student-led agendas. The votes across ECE and Primary School proved just how much magic happens when children are given the power to design their own school day.

Our Early Childhood division, spanning from preschool through to kindergarten, fully embraced outdoor adventures, music, and special treats without a single bit of traditional schoolwork. These youngest learners spent their day exploring the forest and playing at the Grand Parc naturally accompanied by ice cream and even successfully negotiated a bonus recess with Mme Banning. Music and dance were central to their celebrations, featuring high-energy "Baby Shark" dance-alongs, glowing indoor dance parties, and an outdoor K-pop bubble picnic. They also paired their favorite melodies with literature during Robert Munsch storytimes, and turned meal times into celebrations with Mickey Mouse snack picnics, community park outings, and creative classroom swaps. Classe Turquoise hilariously negotiated watching The Lion King for exactly four minutes.

The Primary School showcased equally remarkable creativity and precise negotiation skills. Grade 1 students kept things cozy by voting to bring stuffed animals from home and sit with best friends at snack time. Grade 2 enjoyed French cartoons, freeze dance, and pairing up with class partners. Grades 4 and 5 filled their schedules with kickball, Kahoot trivia, movie time, and extra recess. Grade 3 absolutely dominated the day by electing to build desk forts after a landslide vote, splitting their time evenly between iPads and outside, and playing the traditional French game le double drapeau. They also threw a festive potluck snack party. 

Beyond the movies and treats, Yes Day highlighted wonderful growth across the school. A favorite highlight for the Early Childhood classes was stepping up as "Chefs" to confidently lead their own physical education warm-ups and foster positive social interactions.
