CFIS Alumni Insights: Lessons Learnt, Best Yet & What's Next
October 2022
Emma McCourt '18 has charted an impressive path since her graduation. Recently, she completed an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Ottawa. Now, she's making strides at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, delving into the promising field of regenerative medicine.
Driven by her unwavering passion for research, Emma is all set to embark on a new chapter of her academic journey. She will be pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Ottawa from September 2022. Her ultimate goal is to make significant contributions to academia in the years to come, a testament to her relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
One of Emma's proudest achievements since leaving CFIS is being awarded a prestigious Canadian Graduate Scholarship by the Canadian Institute of Health Research. This recognition validates her dedication and motivates her to pursue her academic pursuits further.
Reflecting on her time at CFIS, Emma emphasizes the invaluable lesson of seeking help when needed. The supportive environment at CFIS, characterized by small class sizes and attentive teachers, instilled in her the confidence to ask questions and seek assistance—a habit that proved to be a tremendous asset during her larger university classes, where proactivity is key.
Emma continues to use her French language skills daily. She pursued a bilingual degree, balancing courses in both English and French, and now finds her bilingualism particularly beneficial in her current research involving human participants, enabling her to communicate effectively in the language most comfortable for them.
