Message from our Consulting Psychologist,
Dr. Brent Macdonald

Dr. Brent MacdonaldI am pleased to continue my involvement as Consulting Psychologist with the Calgary French & International School Student Support Team.

A registered psychologist for since 1997, I did most of my training in the Maritimes, where I taught and provided guidance counselling services at the junior and senior high level before moving to Calgary to complete my PhD.

I have taught at Mount Royal University since 1997 and am an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. I also have a private practice with a team of registered psychologists, specializing in working with complex learners.

I have been highly impressed with the focus on student support offered at CFIS. Psychological supports at CFIS include:

  • Psychoeducational assessment designed to identify student strengths and any specific challenges (i.e. difficulties with reading, writing, math, attention, social skills, and so on);
  • Individual counselling for students;
  • Collaboration with teachers and administration on enhancing the educational environment;
  • Consultation with parents in relation to enhancing student success; and
  • Presentations for parents and staff on issues such as anxiety, depression, communication skills, and relational aggression among other topics.

These supports are accessed by contacting your child’s homeroom teacher or our Coordinator of Student Services, Mme. Cross, at mcross@cfis.com
