Da Vinci Day: From Newsrooms to New Moves

Da Vinci Day: From Newsrooms to New Moves

This Da Vinci Day, CFIS High School students explored a wide range of enriching experiences designed to support personal growth, wellness, and real-world learning, both in and out of the classroom.

A group of Grade 10 students, accompanied by Madame Mathurin, had the incredible opportunity to visit Radio-Canada for an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the world of journalism. From the moment they arrived, students were fully engaged, asking questions, observing live broadcasts, and learning about the many roles involved in media production. The passion and professionalism of the Radio-Canada team left a lasting impression and even sparked interest in journalism as a future career path.

Meanwhile, other students focused on wellness through active field trips across the city. At The Sweat Lab in Springbank Hill, students joined Madame Ricetto Mendes for a 30-minute spin class and 30 minutes of circuit training. What began with some hesitation quickly turned into excitement and gratitude, as students left the session energized and thankful for the chance to reset and bond outside of school. Riding the new electric bus added a fun twist to the outing!

At Krank Fitness in Aspen Landing, Mr. Legault’s group took on a challenging one-hour circuit workout. The instructor was impressed by their effort and focus, and students left feeling proud, and a little sore, after giving it their all.

Mr. Shaffer’s group headed to Rumble Boxing in West Springs for an empowering, high-energy boxing workout. Students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, learning new techniques and staying fully engaged throughout the session.

Whether discovering the inner workings of a newsroom or breaking a sweat in a fitness studio, students embraced Da Vinci Day with curiosity, courage, and community spirit. It was a day that truly reflected our commitment to whole-child development — and reminded us all of the value of learning beyond the classroom.
