The goal of the CFIS House system is to build a strong sense of community, celebrate the whole child, and empower student leadership. These values were front and center at the Middle School House All Stars Basketball Tournament during our May 6 Da Vinci Day.
This event was led by two Grade 8 student leaders, House Captains Maya and Mikyle (Class of 2029). They had a vision for a Middle School event that would bring our community together and engage the Houses in a friendly competition, and through their leadership, they made this vision a reality.
Although each All Star team featured only five players per House, all Middle School students had the chance to get involved. Between games, everyone was invited to take part in basketball-themed challenges, including a free-throw contest, a 3-point shootout, and even a half-court shot challenge. These activities gave every student a moment to shine and added to the energy of the afternoon.
Adding to the excitement, teachers formed a team and played against each House All Stars team, giving students a chance to compete with (and cheer for) their teachers in a spirited, good-humored atmosphere. It was a great example of how CFIS teachers are committed to student life and the relationships that define our school culture.
The success of the tournament was made possible through the efforts of many student volunteers. High school students stepped up to referee, keep score, act as DJs, and help run the event smoothly. Some even joined the fun and participated in the basketball challenges, showing the strength of our 6–12 Secondary community.
The House All Stars Basketball Tournament was a shining example of what student leadership can accomplish - and a reminder that when students are empowered to lead, incredible things happen. The tournament was a true celebration of student initiative, House pride, and CFIS spirit. Bravo to all involved!
