Learning Through Play, Centred on Each Child’s Interests

***

In ECE, our teachers are actively assessing students for report cards, all while making learning fun and tailored. Although it may look like free play, each activity is designed with intention to support each child’s growth.

Our approach follows a child-centred, emergent curriculum, meaning we align learning activities with each child’s unique interests. For example, early literacy and numeracy are taught differently across classrooms: Mme Meriem’s class explores vehicles, while Mme Kimberly uses a firefighting theme. In Junior Kindergarten, Mme Christine teaches outdoors, Mme Julie uses an ice cream theme, and Mme Annemarie explores with airplanes.

Even our youngest learners in Junior Preschool have customised activities to fuel their development and well-being. Through these varied themes, CFIS supports student development across literacy, numeracy, language, and personal growth—all achieved through play designed for each age group’s learning goals.
