Our leading-edge programs exceed all provincial and national pedagogical standards. At CFIS, excellence in all academic areas is supported by our vibrant literacy program and enhanced by a wide range of enriched co-curricular clubs and student experiences. CFIS students learn from specialist teachers in visual arts, music, physical education, travel studies, drama & musical theatre, and speech & debate.
Developing globally aware and prepared students with more than 80 teams, clubs, activities, and other co-curricular opportunities CFIS students have the opportunity to engage with the world at every grade level. As multilingual learners in a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Associated School, CFIS students lead age-appropriate advocacy and humanitarian work related to their studies in their community and around the world through their engagement in our travel studies program, Round Square and through the delivery of globally-recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Starting French immersion in Preschool, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten allows for the optimal development of fluency and bilingualism. An early start gives children the ability to learn the French language as its own standalone structure with separate grammar, syntax, and expression rather than as a translation. Learning a second language enhances focus, increases problem-solving skills and creative abilities, helps to build empathy, and encourages understanding of other cultures and ways of life, as well as making it easier for children to learn subsequent languages. Completing senior high school in a full French immersion environment opens post-secondary options for CFIS students.
Our graduating students attend universities throughout North America and abroad to study business, law, engineering, journalism, science, education, the culinary arts, and music, to name only a few of the many directions our alumni have taken. Through slow, steady growth, our enrollment has climbed annually and we are more than 800 strong.
In the 2019 - 20 school year, we celebrate our 50th anniversary. Stronger than ever, and still growing.
Our community is enriched by a partnership with our families. We believe in celebrating the diversity of the world in which we live. By engaging with the families of CFIS students and drawing from the rich heritage, experience, and knowledge we are able to meet our mission of fostering globally aware and prepared students. This helps us balance academic excellence with making learning fun. All of this is possible because the top-notch staff and faculty of CFIS genuinely love their students and want them to succeed.
